The Bible is written for our example so that we can learn to do the right thing. The Bible is God’s book for our everyday living and walk with the Lord. It is meant for our spiritual growth and development (See 2 Timothy 3:15-17). The Bible contains God’s commandments to His people. God expects His children to obey and keep His commandments. Proverbs 7:2 says, “Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.”

A good child will always obey the instructions of his father. If you are truly a child of God, you will love His commandments and do them. The psalmist says, “Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold” (Psalm 119:127). What does it mean to keep God’s commandments? It simply means to obey His words and continually observe to do them. The only way we can prove to God that we love Him is by keeping His commandments. Jesus says, “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him” (John 14:21).

God expects His children to keep all His commandments. Moses was the greatest man of God to ever live on earth. He obeyed God in all that He commanded him with the exception of one of them. In Numbers 20:7-8, the Lord commanded Moses to speak to the rock to get water for the children of Israel, but he struck the rock. Obeying God and keeping His commandments is for our good and benefit. If you want it to be well with you in all ramifications, fear God and keep His commandments. Deuteronomy 5:29 says, “O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!”

Dear reader, do you fear God? Are you obeying the words of God in the Bible? Are you keeping His commandments? Although water gushed out after Moses struck the rock, he could not get to the promised land for disobeying God’s commandment. Did you know that refusal to keep God’s commandments will hinder you from going to heaven? If you are living in sin, repent and give your life to Jesus Christ before it is too late.
