By Evang. Joachim P. Erameh,

God is a promise keeper. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” God always ensures that His word is performed. God’s word cannot return to Him void without accomplishing its purpose. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

God expects His children to always believe Him. Romans 4:3 says, ” For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.” Did you know that unbelief can prevent God from fulfilling His promises in your life? Matthew 13:58 says, “And He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” The promises of God are for an appointed time. Habakkuk 2:3 says, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Apart from individual promises, there are general promises in the Bible for believers. There are also promises in the word of God for every situation we face in life. As a child of God, you are expected to claim those promises and hold on to them till they are fulfilled in your life. There is no power on earth that can hinder the promises of God, but our attitude and behavior can. One cannot be living in disobedience to God and expect Him to fulfill His promises. God said to Eli the priest, “I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now, be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed (1 Samuel 2:30).

The greatest promise of God is the promise of eternal life. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” The promise of eternal life is not for sinners, but for the children of God. If you are living in sin, repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal Savior before it is too late.”
