In our present time, sinning is gradually becoming an acceptable way of life. The Bible makes us understand that the wages of sin is death. This implies that there is a consequence for living in sin.
What is sin? Simply put, sin is anything you did that displeased God. Sin is the manifestation of the works of the flesh in the life of man (See Galatians 5: 19- 21). 1 John 5: 17 says, every unrighteousness is sin. The Bible warns that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God, except they repent before Judgment Day (See 1 Corinthians 6: 9- 10).
What is the consequence of sin? DEATH. There are three types of death. They include spiritual, physical and eternal deaths. Anyone who is living in sin is spiritually dead. Romans 8 : 6 says, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Physical death is when one gives up the ghost and departs this world. Hebrews 9: 27 tells us that it is appointed unto men once to die; but after this, the judgment. Eternal death, which is also known as the second death, is when one dies and goes to hell.
The Bible teaches that anyone who dies without Christ will die the second death. Revelation 2 : 11 says, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.”
Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from the consequence of sin, which is death. He died in our place to give us eternal life. Romans 5 : 21 says, “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Dear reader, are you born again? Romans 6 : 23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” If you are living in sin, repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ before it is too late.
